Antony’s story is one of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Despite Antony, now 19, growing up in poverty in Kericho, Kenya, he never lost sight of his dreams for a better life. With limited resources, Antony managed to complete preschool at Blessed Showers Academy and primary school at Brooks School with the support of his father, who worked tirelessly to provide for his family despite his little earnings. Antonys family faced financial struggles as he operated a small kiosk that did not bring in much profit. As the sole breadwinner, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family, but they could barely afford the bare necessities. With two other children in school, Sheila and Emma-Antony’s sisters, paying fees became a constant struggle.
Tragedy struck when Antony’s father suffered a head injury which caused him to undergo surgery that left the family struggling to make ends meet. With school fees becoming increasingly difficult to afford, Antony’s future seemed uncertain. It was only through the intervention of Pastor Dan and Makena community that Antony was able to continue his education.
Through hard work and dedication, Antony excelled in high school at Meteitei Boys Secondary School where he got a B grade. He is now pursuing a degree in Public Health at Kabianga university. He is determined to break free from the cycle of poverty and make a difference not only for himself but also for his family and others facing similar challenges.
“I am eternally grateful to my sponsors for their unwavering support in helping me with my school fees throughout high school and now university. Their generosity has allowed me to pursue my education and fulfill my dreams, something I never thought possible. I lack the words to express the depth of my gratitude towards them. Without their assistance, I would have been lost and uncertain about my future. Their kindness and belief in me have given me the assurance that I have a bright future ahead. I am filled with hope and determination to make the most of this opportunity they have provided me with.
I am constantly reminded of the unwavering support and pride that my father has for me. His belief in my abilities and his encouragement have been a driving force in my journey towards obtaining a degree and I know I will make him proud. My sponsors have truly changed my life for the better, and for that, I will be forever thankful.”-Antony.
All of these experiences have shaped and molded Antony into the brilliant and passionate person he is today, with a keen eye on contributing back to the community, he is determined to complete his degree in Public Health from the University of Kabianga and make a difference in his family, and in the lives of others who may have a similar background.
